講者簡介 Speaker Introduction：
傑佛瑞．霍普金斯(Jeffrey Hopkins)為國際知名之藏學權威學者，
他在1963年以優異的成績從哈佛大學畢業，而後在藏傳佛教寺院接受
五年的訓練，接著於1973年取得威斯康辛大學佛學博士。
之後任教於美國維吉尼亞大學，在該校開設藏學研究及藏文的課程，
並成為南亞研究部之主任；期間並擔任達賴喇嘛在各地說法時的英文
翻譯達10年之久。同時，他亦至少出版17篇論文及25本書，其中最
著名的包括《空性的禪修》(Meditation on Emptiness)及《空性
瑜伽》(Emptiness Yoga)等，作品中也包含翻譯達賴喇嘛及梭巴仁
波切之著作。
Jeffrey Hopkins is Professor of Tibetan Buddhist Studies at the University of Virginia where he has taught Tibetan Studies and Tibetan language since 1973. He received a B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1963, trained for five years at the Lamaist Buddhist Monastery of America (now the Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center) in New Jersey, and received a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Wisconsin in 1973. From 1979 to 1989 he served as His Holiness the Dalai Lama's chief interpreter into English on lecture tours in the U.S., Canada, Southeast Asia, Great Britain, and Switzerland. He has published seventeen articles and more than twenty-five books, including Meditation on Emptiness and Emptiness Yoga. At the University of Virginia he founded programs in Buddhist Studies and Tibetan Studies and served as Director of the Center for South Asian Studies.
